A Georgia woman was criminally charged for allegedly leaving her newborn baby in a trash bag on Monday.
Alaynah Rappuhn, a 22-year-old woman, visited a Macon hospital due to excessive bleeding after leaving a trash bag on a back porch. Her boyfriend, who drove her to the hospital, later heard sounds coming from the bag on their porch and found a newborn baby boy wrapped in towels inside, as reported by WSB-TV.
It is believed that Rappuhn had given birth around nine hours before seeking medical help at the hospital. According to WMGT, Rappuhn had not informed her boyfriend about her pregnancy, nor had she mentioned it to the hospital staff.
The baby boy remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
After being discharged from the hospital on Tuesday, Rappuhn was taken into custody on charges of attempting to commit a felony murder, abandoning a child recklessly, and engaging in first-degree cruelty towards children. She is currently being held in jail without the option of posting bond.
