A mother from Washington state has been taken into custody following the tragic death of her 7-month-old daughter, who was discovered alone at home along with a severely malnourished toddler in Yakima.
The Yakima Police responded to a welfare check at the residence around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday after an anonymous caller dialed 911 to report a potential case of an unresponsive infant inside the house, as detailed by the Yakima Herald-Republic. The caller informed authorities of her intention to take her own life.
Officers found the children after hearing a child crying inside.
The baby was found dead in a bassinet, and an autopsy revealed she died from dehydration.
The 2-year-old girl was taken to a hospital, where doctors found evidence of malnourishment and neglect.
Reports from the Tri-City Herald revealed that the mother was located at the Squaw Rock RV Resort & Campground after purportedly driving there and running out of fuel. Law enforcement officers discovered her abandoned vehicle, where a note regarding the depleted gas was left behind.
Kyleah Rose Tolle, 20, was charged with manslaughter, criminal mistreatment, and family abandonment, the Herald-Republic said.
She is being held on a $20,000 bail in the cases involving her children, plus a $5,000 bail on a 2023 case in which she was accused of starving two dogs, killing one of them.
