A woman, 29, was arrested for allegedly causing the death of her 14-year-old son by beating him with an extension cord because he had not finished his chores.
Seattle Police responded to the incident on a Thursday afternoon and discovered the boy severely injured. Despite being rushed to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition, he did not survive.
A police report on the incident said that the mother “was spanking him with an extension cord, and it went to far,” KOMO reported.
According to the police report, the mother was upset that her son had not completed his chores. She then ordered him to undress and proceeded to strike him with an extension cord, referring to it as ‘butt cutting time’.
The report further said that she shoved him against the wall, where he struck his head and fell to the floor limp, but she “continued to eat [son] while he was on the floor.”
“[Mother] ordered [son] to stand, which he complied,” the report said. “[Mother] continued to beat [son] for approximately an hour.”
The woman has not been named because she has not been formally charged. She refused to attend a bail hearing on Friday, but her public defender argued for her release, citing the “significant trauma she is experiencing from” the death of her son.
The judge agreed with prosecutors and set a $3 million bail. Prosecutors said formal charges should be filed by Tuesday.
