Popular sandwich filler sold nationwide is recalled after officials discover it contained the wrong type of meat

SEVERAL kinds of lunch meats were recalled across the US after officials discovered they might contain a different type of meat.

Gaiser’s European Service Provisions Inc. recalled various types of bologna because they were found to contain undisclosed “meat or poultry source materials” on the product labels.

The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Inspection Service reported that over 143,416 pounds of ready-to-eat bologna were affected by the recalls.

Seven products, all produced between March 20 and June 20, 2025, were affected by the recall.

Each item has the establishment number “EST. 5385” inside the USDA mark of inspection on the product labels, according to the recall notice.

“Some products would have been weighed, wrapped, and labeled in retail store locations at the time of purchase,” read the notice.

The issue was found when the FSIS was told by the Office of Inspector General of a complaint received through the agency’s hotline.

“FSIS investigated the complaint and determined that the products contained source materials that were not declared on the label,” read the notice.

Even though no adverse health effects are anticipated for Class III recalled products and there have been no confirmed cases of adverse reactions linked to consuming these items, individuals who are worried about potential illnesses are advised to seek advice from a healthcare provider.

Thankfully, the recall is considered a Class III, meaning that it’s unlikely that eating the products will cause any harmful health effects.

Still, FSIS is worried that the products may still be in customers’ freezers and refrigerators and is urging people who bought the bologna not to eat it.

“Restaurants and institutions are urged not to serve these products. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

FIRE SALE

It comes as recalls have sprung across the country, including at Walmart, after a product was linked to several fire accidents.

The MaxKare Electric Blanket, manufactured by the China-based company Shenzhen Yumo Commerce and Trade Corporation, was sold between June 2021 and November 2024.

Consumers were alerted to the recall of the electric blanket in an announcement released by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Yumo received 34 reports of the blankets overheating, including two cases where the product caught on fire.

The affected products from Gaiser’s European Style Provisions Inc.

  • Vacuum-packed packages of “FAMILY TREE BOLOGNA VEAL” containing undeclared pork.
  • Plastic-wrapped packages of “BABUSHKA’S RECIPE CHICKEN BOLOGNA” containing undeclared pork.
  • Plastic-wrapped packages of “FANCY BOLOGNA” labeled with pork as an ingredient but containing undeclared beef and chicken.
  • Vacuum-packed packages of “GAISERS RUSSIAN BRAND DOKTORSKAYA BOLOGNA” containing undeclared beef.
  • Plastic-wrapped packages of “GAISERS BOLOGNA VEAL” containing undeclared chicken and pork.
  • Plastic-wrapped packages of “GAISERS TURKEY BOLOGNA” containing undeclared chicken and pork.
  • Plastic-wrapped packages of “CHICKEN BOLOGNA KYPOYKA PABA” containing undeclared pork.

There were also three incidents where people were burned.

The recall has affected 8,650 electric blankets sold at Walmart.

According to the release, the blankets have six heating levels and a nine-hour auto-off function.

The products, which are machine washable, are made by Yumo and have been sold exclusively online at Walmart.

The brand name MaxKare and the model number are printed on a tag sewn into the blanket, officials said.

Only three model numbers are affected: HB18A-7284-1, HB18A-8490-2, and HB18A-6284-1.

Shoppers are being told to stop using the blankets immediately.

It has also been recommended that consumers contact Yumo directly for proper disposal instructions.

The recall was triggered after several reports of overheating and blankets catching on fire.

No deaths have been reported, but the company is urging people to act fast.
