A 16-year-old Nebraska boy has been charged with gunning down his 20-year-old brother after mistaking him for an attacker early Tuesday morning.
Lincoln Police responded to a distress call at Bridgeport Apartments at approximately 12:30 a.m., where they discovered an elderly gentleman with multiple gunshot wounds outside the apartment, as per KOLN coverage. The man was swiftly transported to a hospital via ambulance, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
Upon investigation, authorities uncovered that two siblings had both arrived at the apartment complex independently in their respective vehicles. The younger brother explained to the police that upon his arrival, he noticed an individual clad in dark attire, which led him to perceive a threat to his safety, prompting him to discharge his firearm.
The boy has been charged with manslaughter and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
Police said both brothers were armed, and the victim’s weapon was recovered at the scene. They did not say if he had drawn the weapon.
Police have not released the names of the victim or his killer.
