The head coach of a Nevada high school football team has been taken into custody concerning allegations linked to an inappropriate relationship with a student who is under 16 years old.
Antwone Washington, aged 45, is facing nine charges classified as felonies, which include accusations of possession of child pornography, kidnapping, soliciting a minor for sexual activities, and sexual enticement, as reported by KLAS. During a court hearing, he was assigned a bail amount of $100,000, significantly lower than the $500,000 that the prosecution had requested. Additionally, a judge stipulated that he must refrain from any interaction with the victim, individuals below 16, and all premises owned by the Clark County School District.
At the court session, a public defender requested the release of Washington on his own recognizance without the need for bail, emphasizing his clean criminal record and asserting the absence of proof of sexual misconduct, notwithstanding the victim’s age being below the legal age of consent in Nevada.
Washington reportedly confessed to having a sexual relationship with the girl and told police he took multiple inappropriate photos of other girls. He said he has a fetish “that these girls are in his home and that he’s their ‘daddy,’” Clark County Chief Deputy District Attorney William Rowles told the court on Wednesday.
According to an arrest report, Washington wrote an “apology” letter.
The report says that police found at least four videos of Washington having sex with the victim. In one, he urinated on the girl. In another, she was bound and gagged and appeared to be passed out while Washington raped her from behind.
Rowles told the court that Washington had told his wife in a jail phone call that he could not do prison time, implying that he would kill himself.
“It’s not a matter of if Mr. Washington is convicted in this matter. It’s not a matter of if he goes to prison,” Rowles said. “It’s only a matter of what he’s convicted of and for how long he goes to prison for.”
Rowles further noted that Washington said he only wanted to be a mentor.
“Judge, is being a mentor urinating on a child?” Rowles asked. “Is being a mentor gagging a child and having sex with her?”
The teen initially declined to identify Washington, citing his wife and children, the arrest report said. She told police the relationship began in early 2024 and said that one of the videos was shot in his office in the boy’s locker room at Valley High School.
Washington told police he was a polygamist and had three girlfriends, his public defender said.
KLAS said those agreements usually require that the employee not receive pay. His bio page on the Valley High School website has already been removed.
Washington is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on December 16.
