New research uncovers the top restaurants in the UK: Surprise pick emerges as the most frequented eatery in the UK – with a chain restaurant following closely behind in second place

The most booked restaurants in Britain have been revealed, with a little known children’s experience taking the top spot.  

The Science Afternoon Tea at The Drawing Rooms, an educational experience in South Kensington, took the number one spot in the list.

Meanwhile, Cabana’s Covent Garden branch, was the second most popular.

The data has been released by The Fork, a website and app that allows customers to book restaurants. 

Although Italian venues were not included on the list, TheFork disclosed that Brits show a preference for pasta and pizza restaurants above all others, ranking this cuisine as the most popular on their list.

Ranking as the 9th most popular type of cuisine on the list, Indian food secured the second spot in the UK, closely followed by British cuisine in third place, Japanese in fourth, and Mediterranean in fifth.

The sixth most popular was European food, followed by French, International, Asian and finally in tenth place, Steakhouse. 

Here, Femail reveals the most booked restaurants in the UK – ranging from top critic rated cuisine to simple slap-up café grub. 

 1. Science Afternoon Tea at The Drawing Rooms

Taking the top spot is the science afternoon tea, served at The Drawing Rooms at The Ampersand Hotel in South Kensington. 

Inspired by their neighbouring London Science Museum, the restaurant offers an interactive experience with bright visuals and experimental sounds to give patron’s a stimulating afternoon with treats galore. 

Taking winner as the Best Themed Afternoon Tea Awards in 2018, The Drawing Room Tea is a treated beloved by experimental foodies.

The restaurant’s website promise to take customers on ‘journey of discovery, where physics, chemistry and gastronomy meet in a curious alchemy to create an out-of-this-world dining experience.’ 

The food itself is crafted in line with the theme, with spaceship shaped pastries and science beaker cups of delicious beverages.   

2. Cabana – Covent Garden

Located in one of the most bustling parts of the capital, Cabana in Covent Garden serves up authentic Brazilian and Latin American cuisine.

With a menu focused on the Churrasco Grill, the restaurant specialises in serving up a selection of expertly cooked meats including fillet, flat iron and tomahawk steaks as well as guava-cue baby back ribs.

As well as mouth-watering meats, Cabana also cater to vegetarians as well as serving up bright and boozy cocktails in a selection of themed glasses – including a parrot shaped cup.

Cabana also offers bottomless brunches with tropical cocktails and prosecco, as well a live music nights. 

 3. PJ’s Chelsea Brasserie

Third on the list is a more luxury venue, situated in the heart of one of the most opulent parts of the capital.

PJ’s Chelsea Brasserie serve a number of timeless British classics from roast dinners to fish and chips, immaculate burgers and perfectly popping Eggs Benedict. 

The west London restaurant is rated an impressive nine out of 10 on TheFork, with customers drooling over ‘delicious’ food and ‘excellent’ service. 

On the higher end of the price range, the average meal at PJ’s will cost customers around £29, with some more luxury priced steaks raising the bar of otherwise average priced menu options including an £18 burfer and £14 Caesar salad.

 4. Foley’s Restaurant

Foley’s restaurant is impressively reviewed Asian-fusion restaurant located in Fitzrovia in London.

As well as a well-crafted main menu – which serves duck curry with lychee and aubergine and basil leaf –  the restaurant also has a delectable selection of ‘bits and bobs’ list including wagyu skewers, matchstick wings and ginger calamari.

The stylish looked eatery has even won the hearts of food critics with The Guardian’s Jay Rayner praising its ‘big unashamed flavours’, praising it’s dishes ability to ‘deliver a thrilling whack’.

It’s glossy interior boasts stylish silver crockery, high-top tables and expertly moody lighting.

5. Enso’s lounge

Enso’s lounge offers a delectable mixture of both Thai and Japanese cuisine on the famous ‘curry capital’ on Brick lane. 

Drawing in dozens of five star reviews, Enso’s lounge flaunts a vibrant, colour filled interior with bold pop-art coated walls and an unusual Astroturf carpet.

Serving up a combination of Thai and Japanese cuisines, Enso’s expert chef’s have designed a bold menu with lip-smacking nibbles like spicy Thai wings, sweet pumpkin gyoza and prawn tempura.

Their main courses also offer a selection of exciting flavours with a Weeping Tiger beef sirloin, Chu Chee Thai curry and a selection of umami packed stir-fries and noodle dishes.

6. Naroon Marylebone

Naroon is located in Marylebone and serves up contemporary Persian cuisine. 

The venue serves a variety of specialty dishes including slow cooked stews, authentic kebabs and meats from their charcoal grill.

In spite of it’s small venue, it offers a might mix of mouth-watering meals and includes a menu for each meal of the day, serving up traditional khagineh and nargesi by morning and a range of perfectly cooked grilled meat by night.

Naroon is named after a suburb in northern Tehran, famed for its loping mountains, gardens and rich culinary heritage. 

7. Alton Towers Resort – The Crooked Spoon

An unlikely winner of most booked restaurant, this Stoke-On-Trent café at Alton Towers has been awarded seventh place for its quirky interior and expansive all-day menu. 

Situated conveniently at the popular theme park, the café offers is the perfect pitstop for families seeking respite from a day riding the amusements.

The eatery is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, offering a menu to cater all tastes – with loaded fries, grilled meats, salads, indulgent puddings and kid-friendly meals to satisfy everyone.

Adding to it’s charm, the venue is located in the Enchanted Village in the Alton Towers park, and is themed as such with wooden tables, flooring and a woodfire grill with appears to be a tree branching out of the top.

9. The Indian 2 – Best of the City

Also located in the UK capital, The India 2 promises some of the best Indian food in the city.

The restaurant offers a fine dining experience at it’s venue on Old Street, with stylish furnishings and a statement wall featuring a regal looking tiger, making it the perfect spot for occasion meals.

The venue has a broad and varied menu, offering four pages worth of shashliks, tikkas, Malabar, bhunas, mixed grills, masalas, madras’, all while catering for vegetarians.

Offering testament to it’s tasty and modern menu are dozens of five star reviews on TripAdvisor praising the ‘wide range’ or ‘excellent’ food.

10. Naroon Fitzrovia 

Naroon Fitrovia is located near Oxford Circus and serves up contemporary Persian cuisine. 

The sister restaurant to Naroon Fitzrovia, the Persian eatery brings outstanding meats and deliciously spiced rice layered with herbs, vegetables, pulses, meat, nuts and fruit.

Naroon have much to boast about with their menu, which has secured an almost unheard of 4.8 stars of Google reviews and 9.3 out of 10 of TheFork – a rating that is reflected at both their London venues.
