HORRIFIC bodycam footage shows the moment prison guards fatally beat a handcuffed inmate.
Robert Brooks died the day after footage shows him being punched, kicked, and lifted by his neck in a jail examination room.
Footage from four of the guards who were there during the December 9 attack depicts Brooks being restrained with handcuffs as he endures punches to the face and stomps to the abdomen.
Other officers stand by and watch as the prisoner continues to be abused and blood begins to pour from his face during the 30-minute episode.
A guard appears to lift him by his neck and hold him in a choke hold to force him to sit up on the exam table, the video shows.
Brooks is forcibly stood up and held near a wall before he is returned to the table in his underwear and appears unconscious and limp.
The brutal attack happened at Marcy Correctional Facility on December 9 in an examination room.
Brooks, 43, was serving a 12-year sentence for assault, according to the New York Post.
It is unclear what sparked the violence from the guards.
Following the incident, Brooks was transported to Wynn Hospital in Utica where he was later pronounced dead on December 10, attributed to “asphyxia due to compression of the neck,” according to Syracuse.com.
The recording was made public by New York Attorney General Letitia James with the incident now under investigation.
At a press conference on Friday, James said: “My deepest condolences go out to Mr. Brooks’ family.
“I do not take lightly the release of this video especially in the middle of the holiday season.”
James said Brooks had been transferred from Mohawk Correctional Facility in Rome, NY, to Marcy roughly 12 miles away the day of the incident.
State Corrections Commissioner Daniel Martuscello III slammed the officers and described the video in the strongest terms.
He said: “This was a killing, and people will be held accountable.
“These individuals are not representative of the culture of DOCCS nor anything that DOCCS stands for.”
At Governor Kathy Hochul’s request Martuscello said he has began the process of firing the guards and had already suspended 13 without pay.
One guard has already resigned.
Brooks’ family attorney said the public “can now view for themselves the horrific and extreme nature of the deadly attack on Robert L. Brooks.
“As viewers can see, Mr. Brooks was fatally, violently beaten by a group of officers whose job was to keep him safe.
“He had a right to life, just like every other individual housed at Marcy Correctional Facility should not have to face the threat of violence from correctional officers,” an advocate expressed.
Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association President Benny Boscio said the officers “are a disgrace to our profession”.
Boscio said: “This incident is completely contrary to the values we hold dear and the oath we take as Correction Officers, to provide care, custody and control on behalf of everyone in our facilities.”
“Our hearts go out to the Brooks family during this painful time.”
