Our Brit son, 30, was found dead at bottom of 600ft cliff in Benidorm hours into holiday – we still don’t have answers

THE family of a Brit found dead at the bottom of a 600ft cliff in Benidorm have been “abandoned” by cops – and suspect foul play in the tragedy.

Police discovered the body of Nathan Osman, 30, a father-of-four, at the base of a huge cliff on the outskirts of the town in September.

The tragedy struck within 24 hours of the dad from Pontypridd, South Wales, arriving on holiday in Benidorm.

With the initial police investigation failing to chase up key leads, the grieving family was forced to turn detectives themselves.

And there are still unanswered questions hanging over the case.

Nathan’s family say that someone tried to use his bank cards the day after he died, leading to fears that another person was involved.

The Spanish authorities have agreed to meet with Nathan’s family, who insist a more thorough investigation is needed.

His brother and sister, Lee and Alannah, will today fly to Benidorm for direct contact with the local police.

Lee told the BBC: “We’ve been totally abandoned. There’s been zero investigation and we are fighting for answers.”

The family man arrived made a last minute decision to join pals on the Benidorm trip in September 2024 – his first trip away with friends.

He arrived on September 27 and spent time with his group – before saying he would walk back to his hotel alone because he was tired.

But the next morning, his bed had not been slept in – sparking a desperate search.

Later that day his body was found at the bottom of a huge cliff – an hour in the opposite direction to where he was staying.

The tragic discovery was made by an off-duty cop on a water-bike.

Lee is convinced his brother didn’t make the unexplained trip by himself, and said he had “no reason to be up there”.

“We strongly believe he was taken up there, whether it was by taxi or against his own will. And something has happened for him to be found where he was found,” he said.

The family say they know somebody tried to use his bank cards the next day, but this lead was never chased up.

His siblings took it upon themselves to trace his last movements, and say he was on a video call with a pal until his phone’s battery ran out.

In their investigations they turned up public CCTV footage of Nathan on the promenade – and they said he did not seem too drunk.

They also asked for footage from private premises, but the owners refused to hand it over without a request from cops.

The despairing family said they had repeatedly asked for updates on the investigation but time and again faced silence.

Alannah said they recently received an “empty” police file which said the case was closed.

Nathan’s parents – Jonathan and Elizabeth – had to fly to Benidorm to identify his body in September.

Elizabeth said that from day one they were “treated like dogs” by the Spanish police, who showed “no empathy”.

She described how painful it was not knowing what happened to her boy.

His mum expressed her anguish, saying, “Not knowing about that last hour or two before his death, it’s eating us away, day in day out, from the time we get up to the time we go to bed. We live this nightmare.”

Jonathan added: “They’ve done nothing, nothing at all. It’s just a total disregard for his life in every kind of way.”

The family said that travelling back to Benidorm is the only way they can get progress in the case.

They want to hand police the new information they have collected and discuss their concerns about the investigation.

Brother Lee said: “We’ll keep going and going until we find out why – and how he got up there.”

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development office spokesperson commented, “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.”
