Kyle Richards announced that one of her beloved dogs, a German Shepherd named River, has died.
On Saturday, May 10, the 56-year-old former cast member of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills posted on Instagram bidding farewell to River, her incredibly loyal dog. River, originally a foster pet, had a deep sense of gratitude for being rescued and remained faithfully by her side at all times. The dog would eagerly wait by the window till her return, keep her company in the bathroom, and ensure she was always in view by sleeping in her room.
The emotional post continued as she described spending River’s final day outdoors with her and her fellow furry siblings. The family formed a loving circle around River, who, despite the struggle with her hind legs, managed to nuzzle each of them. Surrounded by love, River peacefully passed away in a serene environment.
According to Richards, River was 15 years old.
“I’m grateful she’s at peace and no longer suffering, but her absence will no doubt be painful,” the Bravo star continued. “We love you, River 💔.”
Richards also shared a handful of photos featuring the late pup, including one where a toddler-aged Portia can be seen giving River a big cuddle.
The TV personality, Richards, co-parents her daughters Alexia, 28, Sophia, 25, and Portia, 17, with her estranged spouse, Mauricio Umansky. Notably, Richards also has another daughter, Farrah, 36, from a previous relationship.
Us Weekly confirmed in July 2023 that Richards and Umansky, 54, had separated. Nearly two years later, they have yet to formally file for divorce.
“I knew the day was coming, but when it happens, it’s like, ‘Oh, my God, this is real,’” Richards recalled of Umansky moving out in her Us Weekly cover story in October 2024. “I was so emotional after he and Alexia both moved out. When you’re a married mom of four, the house is chaotic. So it felt so different. Thank God I still have two daughters at home.”
Richard further noted that both Portia and Sophia are “out a lot,” leaving her alone with her six pet dogs.
“Am I a crazy dog lady? Maybe,” she joked. “It’s like having six husbands. It’s a lot of work! But they make me laugh and make me feel safe. They sleep in my room. One sprawls across [me], and I end up sleeping in a split because I want to accommodate her.”
Elsewhere in her Reality Stars of the Year feature, Richards admitted that she didn’t think of herself as single.
“I don’t know what the future holds right now with Mauricio and me. We love each other. So, that part is easy,” Richards said. “What’s not easy is figuring out what’s next. We’re not divorced; he doesn’t live here, but we’re still figuring things out. On the show, people felt they were owed answers and thought I was withholding stuff — but I’m figuring it out myself.”
