An Oklahoma man pleaded guilty this week to shooting his parents and sister to death earlier this year and was sentenced to life without parole.
Jacob Mayhugh, 22, said in his plea that he intentionally killed James, Patty, and Shayla Mayhugh in thier Chickasha home on May 10, KOCO reported.
Officials began searching for Jacob Mayhugh following the discovery of the deceased family members in their residence on May 11, according to CrimeOnline. Law enforcement authorities from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation disclosed that they located an AR-15 type rifle next to the entrance of the house. Investigators confirmed that the serial number on the firearm corresponded to a purchase made by Jacob Mayhugh on April 25. It was also revealed that he had acquired a 9mm handgun during the same transaction, which was discovered within the residence along with discharged shell casings.
Mayhugh was later found in downtown Oklahoma City and arrested.
He reportedly confessed to killing his family members and said that he planned “to commit additional acts of violence,” prosecutors said.
According to KFOR, Mayhugh pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty.
