Olga Solovey Slams Alec Baldwin, the mother of the late cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, has publicly criticized Alec Baldwin for his failure to apologize or accept responsibility for her daughter’s tragic death on the set of “Rust.”
The incident occurred in October 2021 when a prop gun discharged while Baldwin was handling it, resulting in Hutchins’ death and injuring director Joel Souza. Although filming resumed and concluded in May 2023, the emotional toll on Hutchins’ family remains profound.
As “Rust” prepares for its premiere at the EnergaCAMERIMAGE Film Festival in Poland on November 20, Solovey has announced her decision to boycott the event. She expressed her anguish over Baldwin’s actions, stating that his refusal to acknowledge his role in her daughter’s death only exacerbates her suffering. In her statement, she emphasized that Baldwin appears to be seeking profit from the tragedy rather than showing remorse.

The dismissal of Baldwin’s involuntary manslaughter trial in August, due to mishandled evidence, has not alleviated the family’s pain. Solovey insists that an apology from Baldwin is warranted and essential for healing.
Gloria Allred, the family’s attorney, echoed this sentiment, highlighting Baldwin’s disrespect towards Hutchins’ family by not reaching out to them.
The upcoming screening of “Rust” has ignited controversy within the film community, with many questioning the appropriateness of showcasing a film tied to such a devastating incident.
Despite these concerns, the premiere will proceed at a smaller venue rather than the festival’s main hub, and Baldwin will not be present. Meanwhile, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film’s armorer responsible for safety protocols, is currently serving an 18-month sentence for involuntary manslaughter related to Hutchins’ death.
