Former New York City Councilman Dan Halloran, who was previously convicted for involvement in a bribery scheme, has been arrested for being in possession of hundreds of child sexual abuse videos.
According to The New York Post, Halloran, 54, was apprehended at Miami International Airport upon returning from Cuba. A criminal complaint revealed that he had 1,362 videos on his iPhone, with approximately 35 of them involving underage girls who had not reached puberty.
Law enforcement officers discovered a text conversation on Halloran’s phone indicating that he had purchased child pornography in different categories—regular, premium, VIP, and special—priced between $50 and $500, as outlined in the complaint.
After his arrest, Halloran allegedly claimed that two-thirds to three-quarters of the videos in a hidden folder were child pornography.
In 2014, Halloran was convicted of bribing New York political leaders and embezzlement, receiving a 10-year sentence; he served half due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also served on the New York City Council from 2010 to 2013.
The Miami Herald reports that Halloran is being held at Miami’s Federal Detention Center on charges of possession and transportation of child pornography.
