Boston police are looking for a man they say attacked a driver and his vehicle with a hatchet in a late Friday night road rage incident.
The individual believed to be responsible for the crime is Andrew Oprian, a 27-year-old man, according to reports from WCVB. He has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and malicious destruction of property.
Details provided by the Boston Police Department indicate that the suspect pursued the victim in a vehicle at a high speed, resulting in the victim’s vehicle crashing. After the crash, the suspect got out of their vehicle, a gray pickup truck, armed with a hatchet. They proceeded to attack the victim and vandalize the victim’s vehicle by breaking its windows and windshield. The suspect then fled the scene driving towards Brookline on Babcock Street.
Police released videos showing the violent attack, showing Oprian smashing the victim’s car windows.
Reports from Boston 25 state that the incident occurred just before midnight. A witness who saw the events unfold mentioned that the victim was driving a Toyota Prius while being pursued by the suspect in a pickup truck at high speed.
“He had no idea why the guy had been following him. He had no clue. He was shocked,” said witness Matt Silva.
Oprian remains at large.
