A pregnant West Virginia mother was brutally beaten and left for dead in the woods by her children’s father.
A 21-year-old man, Logan Willis, was taken into custody after he allegedly dialed 911 from a nearby gas station and admitted to the authorities that he believed he had harmed his girlfriend, who was in the advanced stages of pregnancy. Willis was accompanied by the couple’s other child at the time of the incident.
Sheriff Ross Mellinger stated that Willis admitted to “beating her until she quit breathing” before dragging her into the woods.
Law enforcement officers from Jackson County found the woman still alive by tracing a trail of blood from the road to her whereabouts. The victim sustained severe injuries that were described as “life-changing,” as detailed in the criminal complaint disclosed by WSAZ.
The mother and her unborn baby were transported to a local hospital and remain in critical condition.
Sheriff Mellinger emphasized the urgency, stating, “It’s as much of an issue making sure the baby survives as her.”
Willis has been charged with attempted murder, malicious assault, and strangulation subsequent to his initial court appearance at the Jackson County Magistrate Court. A bond of $500,000 has been imposed on him as he awaits further legal proceedings.
