Donna Adelson appeared in court on Tuesday with her new legal team to prepare for facing charges related to the alleged planning of her former son-in-law’s murder.
She is accused of orchestrating the killing of Florida State University law professor Dan Markel, who was shot and killed in his garage on July 18, 2014. Convictions have already been made in connection to the case, including her son Charlie Adelson, his ex-girlfriend Katherine Magbanua, and hitmen Sigfredo Garcia and Luis Rivera.
According to Court TV, Donna Adelson has enlisted the services of new lawyers, Jackie Fulford and Josh Zellman, following the unexpected resignation of her previous legal team in September. Previously, she was represented by Daniel Rashbaum, who had also represented Charlie during his murder trial.
On the eve of the trial, Rashbaum withdrew due to a conflict of interest, prompting the dismissal of his co-counsel for the same reason.
Zellman informed Judge Stephen Everett that the defense is still in the process of obtaining discovery materials and transcripts. He mentioned that the prosecutor’s office will cooperate in securing the documents, as Donna’s previous legal team has not provided everything.
Everett directed that all discovery and deposition transcripts be submitted by the next case management hearing on February 11.
