‘Contaminated’ breakfast item recalled over ‘plastic fragments’ hidden inside that can break teeth – 34k cases were sold

Authorities have removed a frozen breakfast product from sale due to concerns that it may contain sharp plastic fragments that pose a risk of dental injuries or choking.

Roughly 34,801 cases were sold before the contamination was identified.

Officials fear that embedded plastic pieces as large as 8 mm could be lurking in Lamb Weston’s frozen hashbrowns patties.

Vulnerable groups such as babies, seniors, and individuals recovering from surgeries are particularly at risk of facing significant health problems if they ingest the affected breakfast item unintentionally.

The item in question was manufactured by Lamb Weston Inc., a company located in Richland, Washington, approximately two hours away from Spokane, and distributed nationwide across the United States.

The company voluntarily launched the recall on April 19, 2025, and it remains active, the Food and Drug Administration confirmed.

It’s categorized as a Class II recall, meaning the product may cause temporary or reversible health effects, with a low chance of severe injury.

The company discovered the contamination, but details on how the plastic entered the food have not been made public.

No press release was issued by Lamb Weston about the issue.

The recall includes four separate product lines of Lamb Weston Hashbrown Patties.

One of them, Item M7204, saw 7,929 cases pulled while another one, item M0053 made up the bulk of the recall with 21,004 cases flagged.

Another line, item M7414, accounted for 2,079 recalled cases and item M7422 added 3,789 cases to the recall.
