Police in Madison, Wisconsin, are investigating a shooting at a Christian school on Monday, with reports indicating multiple fatalities.
The Madison Police Department received reports of an active shooter at the Abundant Life Christian School and identified a juvenile suspect believed to be involved in the incident. Tragically, the suspect was found dead inside the building.
Initially, it was mistakenly reported by the police that five people had died and five were injured during the incident on Monday. However, updated information revealed that three individuals had lost their lives and seven others were injured. The suspect was included among the deceased.
According to WISN, law enforcement officials from the county and state swiftly reached the scene. Upon arrival, officers immediately administered life-saving aid to the injured before they were transported to hospitals by first responders.
The victims’ and suspect identities have not been released, as authorities are still notifying family members. Madison Police Chief Shon F. Barnes said the juvenile suspect was a student at the school, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Officials have opened a unification center for parents and guardians looking for information about their students. Madison schools were placed on lockdown as a safety measure, but police indicated there are no threats to other MMSD schools.
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation. More information will be released as it is available,” police said in a statement.
