Amazon Prime Video has canceled 'My Lady Jane' after its first season

“My Lady Jane” has been axed by Amazon Prime Video following the conclusion of its first season. The series, which premiered its eight-episode season on June 27, was a historical fantasy drama adapted from the novel penned by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows.

The ensemble cast featured Emily Bader, Edward Bluemel, Jordan Peters, Anna Chancellor, Dominic Cooper, Kate O’Flynn, Rob Brydon, Abbie Hern, Isabella Brownson, Robyn Betteridge, Henry Ashton, Máiréad Tyers, Michael Workeye, Joe Klocek, Brandon Grace, and Will Keen.

In a unique twist within an alternate universe, “My Lady Jane” offered a reimagined rendition of the life of Lady Jane Grey, the young Tudor noblewoman who briefly held the title of Queen of England before meeting her tragic fate through execution in 1553. Departing from the constraints of historical accuracy, the show presented Lady Jane as an independent figure, weaving together elements of adventure, fantasy, humor, and love into the narrative.

Despite receiving praise from critics—earning a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes—the show didn’t manage to capture a wide audience.

Fans of “My Lady Jane” have taken to Amazon Prime and the show’s official social media accounts to express their frustration and disappointment over the cancellation. Many are voicing their anger, lamenting the show’s untimely end.

The series was created by Gemma Burgess, who also served as executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Meredith Glynn. Jamie Babbit directed five of the eight episodes and was among the executive producers, along with Sarah Bradshaw and Laurie MacDonald.

Unfortunately, despite its critical acclaim, “My Lady Jane” won’t be returning for a second season. The news of the cancellation was first reported by Deadline.
