Rihanna and A$AP Rocky are thinking of a name for their next child, taking inspiration from an unexpected source – Rocky’s lawyer. Following the rapper’s acquittal in a highly publicized assault case, attorney Joe Tacopina disclosed that the couple humorously promised to name their future child “A$AP Joe” in a tribute to him.
In an interview with Extra released on February 19, Tacopina recounted,
“They grabbed me and said, ‘Listen, our next baby is going to be named A$AP Joe.’ I told them, ‘I’m going to hold you to that!’”.
The lawyer further noted that A$AP, who is 36 years old, expressed deep appreciation for his work, stating,
“He told me he loved me and that we’re family”.
The judgment, which spared Rocky from a possible 24-year jail term, visibly shook the rapper. When the first not-guilty verdict was announced, he almost collapsed, holding onto his legal team before looking towards Rihanna and his supporters in the courtroom.
Shortly after the jury’s decision, Rihanna took to Instagram to express her gratitude.
“THE GLORY BELONGS TO GOD AND GOD ALONE,”
she wrote to her 150 million followers.
“THANKFUL, HUMBLED BY HIS MERCY!”.
For Rocky, the decision meant he could go back to his two sons, RZA and Riot, whom he co-parents with Rihanna. Tacopina characterized the moment as overwhelming for the rapper, unsure if he would be celebrating with his family that evening or facing a long prison spell.
Before Rihanna became a mom, she admitted that she wanted several children, telling British Vogue in 2020:
“I’ll have kids. Three or four of ’em”. In an interview with Interview magazine in April 2024, she revealed her desire to have more children. She stated, “I let God lead and just let go”.
When asked about the number of additional children she hoped to have, Rihanna responded, “As many as God wants me to have”. She also expressed her wish to have a daughter someday.
