10-Year-Old Boy Kills Himself After Being Bullied by Teacher Who Called Him ‘Stupid’

Two parents filed a lawsuit against a Florida school district last week, two years after their 10-year-old son died by suicide.

Louis Johnson, a student in Marion County, tragically took his own life in April 2023. Johnson’s parents have pointed fingers at Dawn White, a fifth-grade teacher at Legacy Elementary in Ocala, alleging that she bullied their son and incited other students to follow suit, as reported by WCJB.

In a lawsuit, it was mentioned that White had allegedly referred to Johnson as “stupid” and claimed he was ignorant. Furthermore, she was accused of subjecting several other students to similar torment and humiliation.

Allegedly, Johnson’s parents had informed the school board about White’s behavior, but no action was taken until several months after Johnson’s tragic suicide. Finally, in June 2023, the school board decided not to renew White’s contract after discovering multiple occurrences where she publicly humiliated students over their academic performance.

Johnson’s parents alleged that White’s actions led to their son’s mounting anxiety and depression which ended with his suicide. The lawsuit stated that White continued to bully Johnson for three to four months after his parents went to the school board.

According to Law & Crime, Johnson’s parents have accused the school board of negligence, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and negligent supervision. Their lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.
