When Taylor Swift’s father, Scott Kingsley Swift, spotted his daughter’s talent, he relocated his whole family so she could chase her dreams. Taylor credits her success to her “excellent father,” who “actually believed” in her.

Scott originates from Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, where he met Taylor’s mom, Andrea. They married in 1988 and welcomed Taylor the year after and her brother, Austin, in 1992. Scott said he noticed Taylor’s passion for singing as a toddler.

He recalled hearing his daughter singing all the time, but when Scott realized she was different, he decided to do everything he could to help his daughter chase her dreams.

Meet Scott Kingsley Swift, Taylor Swift’s Dad

Scott was born on March 5, 1952. He enrolled at the University of Delaware and graduated in 1974. He became a stockbroker and started the Swift Group, part of Merrill Lynch, where he had worked for over twenty years.

Scott realized his daughter’s talent for writing when she was 13. She was assigned a two-sentence essay assignment but handed in a two-page composition. Scott and Taylor’s teachers knew they had a special kid on their hands. Scott said:

“We had a kid that was really passionate about it, and when she was 13, she got a development deal at RCA. That was the confirmation that maybe she wasn’t crazy because her writing is why she got it.”

Fast forward a few years, Scott made his acting debut in his daughter’s music video for her hit song “The Man.” Scott was not only proud of his daughter, but her fame also helped him stay connected with old friends, which in turn helped the singer with her career.

Scott Once Relocated His Business for Her Sake

After Taylor penned her deal with RCA, Scott relocated the family from Pennsylvania to Nashville. He also relocated his business, and while Andrea accompanied her to shows and tours, Scott stayed home and cared for Austin. Scott and Andrea chose not to tell their daughter that she was part of the reason for the move.

Andrea explained that she did not want her to feel guilty if her career did not take off. They lived 20 miles outside of Nashville, so she was not constantly surrounded by the children of the executives at her label. But despite their efforts, Taylor knew she was the reason for the move. She said:

“I knew I was the reason they were moving. But they tried to put no pressure on me. They were like, ‘Well, we need a change of scenery anyway,’ and ‘I love how friendly the people in Tennessee are.'”

Scott Once Handed Out Pizza to His Daughter’s Fans

As a “touching” gesture, Scott showed he had his daughter and her fans in mind when he hand-delivered thirty pizzas to waiting fans. In August 2019, fans queued in anticipation of the singer’s performance, and her father was one of the people to hand out pizzas to the hungry crowd.

Scott and Taylor’s Mom Are Divorced

After over two decades of marriage, Scott and Andrea decided to go their separate ways in 2011. They had experienced struggles in their marriage during the peak of their daughter’s career and chose to keep their situation under wraps.

Despite going their separate ways, Scott and Andrea showed family came first when they were both present when the American Music Awards handed their daughter the Artist of the Decade Award for Taylor Swift’s impressive career in 2019.
