The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina is searching for a missing woman who has not been seen for nearly two months.
Stephanie Womacks was last seen at a campsite in Table Rock State Park on March 3.
Investigators mentioned that not long after Womacks was last spotted, some of her personal items were discovered in a hilly region of Table Rock, beyond the established hiking paths.
On Monday, the sheriff’s office told WYFF News 4 that its members carry out “informal” searches every Friday.
Authorities stated that numerous private contractors have reached out to the sheriff’s office to assist with the search area and are actively participating in the search efforts.
Although these groups are not official search and rescue teams, the sheriff’s office continues to actively pursue Womacks’ case.
Last month, the sheriff’s office said foul play likely was not involved in her disappearance, Greenville News reports.
“Even though we have been diligent in following up on every lead and making use of all available resources,” Pickens County Sheriff Tommy Blankenship explained, “we have been unsuccessful in locating Womacks. There is no suspicion of any criminal activity surrounding her disappearance.”
Womacks stands 5 feet tall, weighs around 100 pounds, and was last seen in jeans and a brown hoodie.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts is urged to contact police at at 864-898-5500.
