Senator John Fetterman made a bold fashion statement when he showed up at Capitol Hill for President Donald Trump’s inauguration by wearing shorts in the chilly weather.
Despite the formal occasion of witnessing the swearing-in of the 47th President of America, most guests dressed up for the event. In contrast, the Pennsylvania senator stood out in a black Carhartt hoodie, gray gym shorts, and ON sneakers.
Fetterman, 54, was photographed sitting front row at the ceremony, with his legs spread in front of him.
Due to the extreme cold weather and icy conditions in Washington, D.C., Trump’s swearing-in ceremony had to be relocated indoors to the Capitol rotunda, making Fetterman’s choice of attire even more unconventional.
However, the arctic blast doesn’t appear to bother Fetterman, who stuck with his usual casual attire.Â
Social media users were agog at the Senator’s decision, taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their disbelief over the chilly decision.Â
‘John Fetterman wearing shorts to the inauguration after Trump wussed out because of the cold is a boss move,’ declared one user.Â
‘THIS GUY IS ABSOLUTELY NUTS,’ laughed another.Â
‘John Fetterman is a f**king disgrace. The end,’ declared one disgruntled social media user.Â

Another jokingly compared it to a scantily-clad Lauren Sanchez, who wore a white pantsuit with lacy lingerie peaking through.Â
‘We got Fetterman wearing gym shorts, and Jeff Bezo’s wife wearing this to the inauguration,’ they joked, showing photos of the guests.Â
Fetterman is known for his attachment to his trademark hoodie. Last year, he made waves after wearing a hoodie printed with a tuxedo design, which he paired with a black pair of shorts, whilst on a date night with his wife of 15 years Gisele, 41.
In early January, Fetterman flew down to Palm Beach, Florida, last week to meet with the incoming president at his lavish Florida property – the first Democratic senator to do so.Â
Trump won Pennsylvania in the 2024 election after losing the Keystone State to President Joe Biden four years before.
Since entering office in 2023, Fetterman has bucked conventional norms. He checked himself into Walter Reed to deal with severe depression and told the public about it.
Fetterman also has strongly supported Israel since the October 7 Hamas terror attack, while many Democrats have vocally been pro-Palestinian.
Trump kicked off the ceremonies for his historic second inauguration alongside wife Melania, son Barron and his family at a church service early Monday morning.

President Trump took the front row of St. John’s Episcopal Church – just a block away from the White House – and smiled to Vance, who was sat alongside wife Usha.
The president-elect, wearing a suit and dark red tie, shook his fist to photographers as he stepped out of the crowd. Melania, in a navy blue suit and matching hat with white trim, was at his side. Their son Barron walked with them.
The Trump family joined them inside the church – Ivanka and Jared Kushner and their kids; Don Jr., his ex-wife Vanessa and their kids; Tiffany Trump and husband Michael Boulos; and Eric and Lara Trump and their two children.Â
Incoming Vice President J.D. Vance and his wife Usha sat in the front pew with Donald, Melania and Barron.
