Florida officials said a man was killed on Tuesday in a wood-chipper accident at a town hall.
According to WPEC, a tragic incident took place at the Ocean Ridge Town Hall and Police Department property involving a tree trimming contractor from Carlton’s Tree Service who met with a fatal accident. The individual involved in the incident, whose name has not been disclosed to the public, suffered decapitation.
Lynne Ladner, the Town Manager of Ocean Ridge, informed WPEC that it is suspected the man was dragged into the wood chipper headfirst. Sources indicate that he was stuck in the machine with only his shoulders visible.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration responded to the scene.
Ladner explained that while the wood chipper had an emergency shut-off mechanism, the man was dead by the time it was activated.
“I am devastated. It is a horrible loss of life,” she said.
