‘Spineless’ cup brand hit by boycott as shoppers vow to ‘never purchase’ them again over controversial cancelation

A POPULAR thermal cup brand is being ripped apart online after it refused to fulfil an order for a women’s nonprofit.

The brand previously worked with the organization, but now refuses to help the nonprofit over its political messaging.

Yeti, famous for its high-quality insulated cups and ice chests, decided to reject an order from the Clare Boothe Luce Center for Conservative Women in northern Virginia.

The organization, as described on its website, focuses on conservative outreach, education, and mentorship for young women exclusively.

The organization called out Yeti for its actions in a post on X, claiming the company “cancelled” it.

“We thought cancel culture went out in 2024, but here we are,” the first of a series of posts read.

The nonprofit had expressed its desire to repurchase thermal mugs featuring the words “Clare Boothe Luce Center for Conservative Women” written in cursive.

The organization ordered the same mug last year, but it was denied this year due to its political content, despite receiving several confirmation emails.

“Our order was cancelled because our logo includes the phrase: ‘conservative women,’” the company wrote.

“We talked on the phone today with a Yeti sales manager and she told us that the phrase ‘conservative women’ is on ‘the political aisle’ so they cannot provide us with the product.”

The company clarified that since its a 501(c)(3) organization, it’s legally non-political.

“We are an educational organization that works to help young women become strong, conservative leaders. Our organization provides young women with many opportunities through our programs which include: internships, national student summits, campus lectures, and firearms training.”

The company included a photo of last year’s Yeti mug being gifted to author and speaker Stella Morabito.

“We ordered the EXACT same product from Yeti last year with no problems. Nothing is different—their terms haven’t changed in the last 10 years. We submitted payment and got all the confirmation emails,” the company posted.

“This is ridiculous. Yeti, do better.”

The order cancellation sparked major backlash as social media users called the brand “spineless.”

“I will not ever purchase another Yeti due to your action of not supporting the Women’s Conservative group. Spineless,” one X user wrote.

Another user shared a photo of their Yeti mug in the trash.

Yeti’s full statement

Yeti told Fox Business:

“YETI serves a wide-ranging customer base by designing and developing outdoor products for passionate people to use in the wild. Starting with our first customized Rambler® Drinkware in 2015, we’ve used our best efforts to create and adhere to a policy that prevents customizing products aligned with any political affiliations or organizations in addition to content that could be considered obscene, vulgar, profane, discriminatory, defamatory, or hateful. We regret that due to a mistake, this policy was not followed with the previous online order from the Clare Boothe Luce Center.”

“Thursday is trash day and I have others that work just as well,” the user wrote.

A spokesperson for Yeti responded to the controversy, saying the company uses “its best efforts” not to align with any political organizations.

“Starting with our first customized Rambler® Drinkware in 2015, we’ve used our best efforts to create and adhere to a policy that prevents customizing products aligned with any political affiliations or organizations in addition to content that could be considered obscene, vulgar, profane, discriminatory, defamatory, or hateful,” the company said in a statement to Fox.

“We regret that due to a mistake, this policy was not followed with the previous online order from the Clare Boothe Luce Center.”

Yeti did not immediately reply to The U.S. Sun’s request for more information.
