Sir Keir Starmer will have to wait at least another week to visit President Trump – as he heads to Brussels first

SIR Keir Starmer will have to wait at least another week to visit Donald Trump — as he heads to Brussels first.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with the leaders of the EU 27 to negotiate Britain’s inclusion in a defense treaty with the bloc. Additionally, other meetings with European leaders are on the agenda for this weekend.

The new President and the PM agreed to “meet soon” when they spoke on Sunday.

But No10 sources said last night no date had yet been set for a dash to DC.

Recent reports suggest that Lord Mandelson has informed his close associates that his contentious appointment as the next UK Ambassador to the US has received approval from the Trump White House.

It came amid claims his relationship with China had been reported to the FBI by concerned American senators.

Meanwhile, Trump’s secretary of state warned Foreign Secretary David Lammy to beware China’s “malign influence”.

It came as the White House scrutinises Britain’s deal to cede sovereignty of the Chagos Islands.

Marco Rubio stressed the need for a “free and open Indo-Pacific that is secure and stable” in his first call with Mr Lammy.

Rachel Reeves wants to follow Trump’s lead & stop talking UK down… but will her ‘Make Britain Great Again’ mantra work?
