South Korean equities rise with boost from Samsung

South Korea’s Kospi index rose 1.1 per cent, buoyed by gains in Samsung after Nvidia said it was working to certify the company’s high bandwidth memory chips.

The country’s currency rose 0.4 per cent against the dollar to Won1,368.20, making it the strongest-performing in Asia during early trading.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index climbed 1.3 per cent and the Hang Seng Tech index, which includes a number of Chinese technology companies, rose 1.5 per cent.

Japan’s benchmark Topix shed 1.3 per cent following the release of wage data. The yen dropped 0.4 per cent against the dollar to ¥155.44.
