As Bryan Kohberger’s trial draws near, his legal team is actively submitting a series of motions with the goal of eliminating the possibility of facing the death penalty.
Reports suggest that the choice to enter a plea of not guilty was influenced by his mother, Maryann Kohberger, who is said to believe that he should contest the accusations. A conviction could potentially result in him being sentenced to death.
During the court proceedings, a judge in Idaho rejected Kohberger’s plea to have defense experts testify to challenge the prosecution’s assertions regarding his whereabouts and his history of purchasing items from Amazon. The prosecution has alleged that there is evidence indicating Kohberger purchased a knife and its sheath online in the months leading up to the incidents. Legal documents further indicate that he searched for a new knife following the crimes.
