Authorities in the US confirmed she died after being shot in the chest by “another person”.
It has now emerged a suspect has been identified in the horror and that the case is being probed as a “criminally negligent homicide”.
A police report also confirmed there are five witnesses – including two children – who have also been identified, Mail Online reports.
It is understood a file has been passed to the Grand Jury, who will decide any charges need to be made.
In Texas, a conviction for criminally negligent homicide can carry jail time.
An inquest in Cheshire heard how Lucy was “on holiday in the USA when she was fatally shot with a firearm”.
An autopsy report from Chester Gwin, MD assistant county medical examiner for Collin County found she was shot in the chest by “another person”.
The report also confirmed there was no alcohol or drugs in Lucy’s system at the time
She had travelled to Texas with her boyfriend just after Christmas for a family holiday.
The couple had been planning to fly back to Manchester the day after Lucy was discovered dead.
Lucy’s mum and boyfriend previously paid tribute to the former Manchester Metropolitan University student.
They said: “Lucy was life. She lived it fiercely and fearlessly, not being afraid to feel all that life has to offer.
“Lucy unashamedly loved – she had a huge capacity to love and be loved.
She embodied contradictory traits – loving travel and new experiences while also enjoying cozy nights at home in her pajamas with candles burning.
She had a flair for drama, often treating minor issues as major catastrophes, but she could also engage in direct and bold conversations without hesitation.
“She was truly thriving in life and although this gives us great comfort, we are utterly heartbroken at the loss of our beautiful, gorgeous Luce.”
Lucy’s old school, Great Sankey High, also paid tribute.
They said: “We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Lucy Harrison, one of our former students. Lucy was a bright and dedicated student.
Her presence was cherished within our school community, where she was a popular and esteemed member at Great Sankey High School and Barrow Hall College (the school’s sixth form).
“She will be remembered for her hard work, dedication to her studies, and her friendly and positive presence within our college community. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this most difficult time.”
Lucy’s funeral will be held at St Elphin’s Parish Church at 12.30pm on February 24.
Her family have asked for donations to be made to Peace & Mind UK, a Warrington charity set up by Brianna Ghey’s mum.
