A 15-year-old Ohio boy who reportedly fatally shot his stepfather last week has been charged with murder.
Levonte Hyde, 30, tragically passed away in Cincinnati after suffering multiple gunshot wounds in an incident involving a teenage individual. The young teenager, who remains unnamed, reportedly shot Hyde approximately 30 minutes after witnessing Hyde striking the teenager’s mother. This chain of events unfolded after Hyde physically assaulted the woman by punching her in the face, as reported by WLWT.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that the 15-year-old was arrested and charged with murder the same day Hyde died.
During the court proceedings, assistant prosecutor Tatyana Reintjes shed some light on the timeline of events, stating, “He had time to find a firearm, open a safe, retrieve that firearm and waited, for the victim to arrive, and ultimately ended up firing 12 shots when the victim did succumb to his injuries.”
Reports from WXIX indicate that the altercation escalated while Hyde and the teenager’s mother were en route to a store, leading to a heated argument between the pair. The situation spiraled out of control when Hyde allegedly resorted to physically assaulting the woman by punching her in the face while they were in the car.
Prosecutors said Hyde is not the 15-year-old’s father, though WLTT reported that he fathered two of the boy’s siblings. Prosecutors described Hyde and the mother as “co-natural parents of two children.”
The 15-year-old boy remains in juvenile detention. He is due back in court on March 3.
