A Chattanooga man allegedly shot someone and then called 911 to report the crime.
Isaiah Zachary Berry, 22, called 911 to report that he had shot a man. Police identified the victim as Alexander Newton, 55.
The shooting incident took place on a Thursday at an empty multi-unit complex close to the western side of Missionary Ridge, specifically in the 2600 block of Glenwood Parkway during the early morning, as stated by Fox Chattanooga.
Upon their arrival at the location, authorities discovered Newton on the floor near the rear bedroom, with severe life-threatening injuries. Tragically, Newton was declared deceased on-site.
According to information from News Channel 9, Berry was found asleep within the vacant building when Newton entered, shouting and abruptly yanking a blanket away from him, as per the affidavit. This sudden act by Newton startled Berry, leading him to react by firing multiple shots towards the victim.
“The preliminary investigation reveals the suspect and victim were in an abandoned apartment when the suspect shot the victim multiple times. Evidence at the scene appears to show that the suspect stood over the victim and fired at least one round at him.”
Berry has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
