From the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors to the small villages and hamlets of North Yorkshire, the county is known for its beauty and attractive places to live.

Due to the size of the county and the spread-out nature of life in North Yorkshire, with small villages dotting the landscape rather than the big cities of West Yorkshire, it can be hard to know exactly where the best places to live are. However, Strata Homes has put together a list of five of the best places to live in the county.

This includes some of the larger towns in North Yorkshire as well as some of the cities and smaller villages. Using information from Rightmove, we can also tell how much it costs to buy a house in the area.

First up is Boroughbridge, near to York and Harrogate. It is a market town filled with small shops, winding roads and canals.

With its location, it also provides easy access to all of York, Harrogate and Leeds meaning you can enjoy the countryside without being too far from major cities. Housing can be fairly expensive in the town however, you can buy a flat for around £90,000 to £130,000, but a house will cost much more.

One three-bedroomed terrace house towards the outskirts of the town is listed for above £200,000, while a semi-detached three-bedroomed house goes for £295,000. Closer the centre houses go for £450,000 for a three-bedroomed detached and one six-bedroomed mansion is currently on the market for £3 million.

Knaresborough, near to Harrogate, is also listed as one of the best places to live in the county. With its famous viaduct across the River Nidd, the town is well known for its beauty. A three-bedroomed detached home goes for around £425,000 in Knaresborough, with others going for £325,000 for a three-bedroomed semi-detached.

If you fancy living somewhere a little smaller, you can’t go far wrong with Dishforth. This small village is located near to the A1(M), which helps provide access to either York, Leeds or Harrogate.

There, you can find three-bedroomed homes for £325,000 while a home with four-bedrooms goes for £419,995. Next up, Strata homes also suggests the city of Ripon as one of the best places to live. While it is a city, Ripon is fairly small and its city-status is owed to its historic cathedral.

A four-bedroomed house in Ripon goes for £550,000. while you can get some three-bedroomed terraced homes for £225,000. Finally, Green Hammerton is another small village in the county, filled with stunning views. There, you can find four-bedroomed detached homes for £489,995.
