The former president of NYU’s college Republicans who resigned in disgrace after calling Barron Trump an ‘oddity on campus’ has broken her silence.Â
Kaya Walker, a college student studying International Relations and French, expressed regret for the misunderstanding caused by her comments and leaving the group.
The saga began when Walker spoke to Vanity Fair about the reclusive first son’s social life on the Greenwich Village campus – or lack thereof.
‘He’s sort of like an oddity on campus. He goes to class, he goes home,’ Walker said.
Her statement drew condemnation from the College Republicans of America and led to Walker submitting her resignation on Sunday.Â
The group, in a statement on social media, mentioned that Vanity Fair portrayed Walker unfairly and that her statements did not reflect their organization’s values and principles.
During her recent interview after the incident, Walker clarified that her words were taken out of context and that she actually empathized with the 18-year-old individual, despite not being acquainted with them.
‘They took it to say that I was saying that Barron was strange for being a commuter — which I thought was crazy because I’m a commuter,’ she said.
‘They [made it] look like I was calling the president’s son weird, but I feel like anybody who can read would know that’s not what I was doing.’

Walker added that she ‘campaigned for’ Trump’s father and had no ‘ill intent towards him.’Â
‘I just feel bad that he’s having this hard college experience, and I understand that he wants to be left alone,’ Walker told the New York Post.
She previously told the Post in December that Barron was ‘watched like a zoo animal’ and felt the way fellow students treated him was ‘really strange.’Â
Walker said that her and her family have gotten threats via social media over her comments, admitting: ‘I don’t know how I’m gonna get through this, honestly.’Â
Will Donahue, the head of the College Republicans of America, defended the decision to ask Walker to resign. Â
‘The conversation that we have with Kaya is, look, this is blowing up out of proportion, to protect your reputation and the organization, the prudent move would be for you to step down,’ he said
Donahue added that Walker – a senior undergrad – quit ‘on her own volition’ and was not pushed. Â
Walker, however, was upset after what she described as her hard work on behalf of the NYU chapter.

Will Donahue, the head of the College Republicans of America, defended the decision to ask Walker to resign
‘I’ve been killing myself trying to support the conservative movement, everybody knows that it’s an uphill battle being a Republican at NYU,’ she said.
‘I’ve put my everything into building up my chapter. I built [attendance] up exponentially. It’s been insane, especially this past year, we’ve seen such a rise in membership and had such a great time.’
She had no comment on the College Republicans of America but said that she had no choice and ‘I actually regret resigning.’
The NYU college Republicans further described what Walker said as ‘inappropriate’ and accepted her resignation.
President Will Donahue had a personal message to Barron at the end of their statement, asking him to join and help ‘shaping the future of our party.’Â
‘Barron Trump represents the future of the conservative movement and we would be honored to have him join College Republicans of America,’ he said.
‘Strong leadership is built on resilience, courage, and the humility to rise above petty hostility – qualities that Barron has already demonstrated.’Â
Walker, meanwhile, is a New England native who interned at the Bronx District Attorney’s Office and had plans to go to law school.Â

The group says they are overseeing what they hope will be a ‘smooth transition’ in leadership.
Barron is a figure of fascination for many, as very little is known about the president’s youngest child
In the past, its been reported that the six-foot-nine teenager doesn’t socialize much at school and mostly stays in his room, though he does play video games and soccer with classmates.
Some even suggested that the 19-year-old freshman was a ‘ladies man,’ though father Donald said his son hasn’t yet had a girlfriend.
After years of staying out of the spotlight, Barron emerged as an unexpected online star earlier this year after he attended his father’s victory speech.
Almost immediately following the appearance, the world became fiercely fascinated, as millions across the web scrambled to uncover every intimate detail about his personal life.
Barron’s sudden thrust into the public eye was almost as quick as his retreat from fame in 2016 after his dad became president.
Donald welcomed Barron with his third wife, Melania Trump, while he was in the midst of running his real estate empire and already a huge media star, which meant Barron was propelled into the spotlight from a young age.

At first, the youngster seemed to have a knack for cameras; he appeared on his dad’s show The Apprentice as a toddler and his adorable personality instantly captured viewers attention.
Described as a ‘little Donald,’ Barron even once said that he wanted to grow up to be a business mogul like him, and between his natural ability to wow a crowd and his vivacious personality, many believed he had the makings to one day do just that.
But after his dad was elected as the President of the United States in 2016, everything changed.
While the youngster was used to a spotlight being on his family, it reached new levels after Donald entered politics, and he seemed to struggle with the added attention – most of which was negative.
Suddenly, the entire nation had their eyes on the family, and a then-nine-year-old Barron was unfairly subjected to a slew of criticism from the media.
Despite children of other political figures rushing to his defense – including Chelsea Clinton and Jenna Bush Hager – and the White House issuing a plea with reporters to back off, Barron retreated heavily from the spotlight.
During his high school years, Barron, who moved to Mar-a-Lago with his parents following his dad’s presidency, went through extreme measures to stay private.
But the mystery surrounding the teenager, who is now a freshman at New York University, only added to his appeal after he stepped out on stage with his dad for a rare appearance in November and suddenly became an online star.

In October, Donald divulged a rare bit of very personal information about his son after a podcaster inquired about his dating life.Â
‘Is he good with the ladies in school at NYU? Is he there yet?’ PBD podcast host Patrick Bet-David asked Donald.
‘No, I’m not sure he’s – I don’t think he’s had a girlfriend yet,’ Donald revealed. ‘I don’t think so.’
‘Every once in a while …’ he trailed off. ‘He’s a good looking guy.’
According to Barron’s fellow NYU classmates, however, he prefers to stay in his room and play video games rather than socializing with his fellow students.Â
Multiple students at the college told TMZ that they said the teen ‘spends little time on campus,’ always sits in the back of classrooms, and ‘moves quickly’ from the school buildings to his waiting SUV.
‘He hardly exists,’ one student told the publication.
They added that he was always surrounded by Secret Service members, which likely makes it difficult for Barron to have a normal college experience.Â

But there is one way that he has connected with his classmates: through his love of video games.
The outlet reported that Barron had ‘been asking NYU students for their Discord usernames and gamertags to play together online.’Â
Discord is a social media app used to connect and chat with other players of a video game.
As for his game of choice, it’s been said that his favorite is the soccer game FIFA.
In the end, his classmates described him as ‘chill’ and ‘friendly.’Â
A few weeks later, a separate source described Barron as a ‘ladies man’ to People magazine.Â
‘He’s a ladies’ man for sure. He’s really popular with the ladies,’ they dished.
As Barron blossomed into a young adult, many wondered if he would follow in his father’s footsteps like he longed to do when he was a toddler.
Back in May, a source told DailyMail.com that Barron was ‘far more politically interested than people realize.’
‘I see all the attributes of a future President if he has the appetite for it. And why not? He has the Trump genes,’ they said.Â
