The boat capsized in the Newport Walk area known as Breezy Point, according to cops.

Emergency responders quickly responded to the location following an emergency call from a boat containing five individuals who were found in the frigid waters of the Ambrose Channel.

FDNY, NYPD and the Coast Guard then removed several people from the water and rushed them to a nearby hospital, according to ABC 7.

Five people were rescued from the boat in the water and rushed to hospital.

Two people were airlifted to Staten Island University Hospital and three others were taken to the Coast Guard station in Sandy Hook, N.J.

At least three people were confirmed to have died.

One person is in critical condition and another is in stable condition, reports the outlet.

The agencies were still searching on Sunday evening for anyone who may still be in the water.

And officials are also said to be looking for a sixth person, NBC 4 New York reports.

The FDNY said one person is still missing, however, the NYPD could not confirm, according to NBC.

The fire and police departments are now investigating the incident, along with the US Coast Guard.

Cops did not release the name of the boat or details about what may have happened before it capsized.

According to a spokesman from the NYPD, one of the individuals on the boat dialed 911 at midday to report that their vessel had capsized in the Ambrose Channel.

The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.

The Ambrose Channel serves as the primary shipping route in and out of the Port of New York and New Jersey, as indicated by the US Army Corps of Engineers New York District.
