California Mother Shot Dead After Tot Finds Unsecured Gun

A 2-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his mother in California after finding a loaded gun in her bedroom.

According to ABC 30,, 22-year-old Jessinya Mina was shot by her son while she was in bed shortly before 5:30 p.m.on Friday.

The Butterfly Grove apartment complex in Fresno was the site of the tragic event. Authorities arrived to find Mina suffering from a gunshot wound to her upper torso.

When police arrived at the scene, they found her with a gunshot wound to her upper body.

First responders took her to the Community Regional Medical Center, where she ultimately passed away from her injuries.

According to KNTX, Sanchez, who had no prior criminal record, was taken into custody on charges of negligent firearm storage and felony child endangerment. However, he has since been able to post bail.

“It’s difficult to comprehend that a two-and-a-half-year-old could have the strength to manipulate a firearm,” Lt. Paul Cervantes said..

Mina’s sister, Jessica Rodriguez, stated to KFSN that Sanchez disregarded his girlfriend’s requests to avoid having a gun in the house.

In a heartfelt statement, Rodriguez expressed her grief, stating, “Now because of her boyfriend’s carelessness, his arrogance, his irresponsibility, and disregarding my sister’s wishes of never having a gun in her home, she is gone forever. My sister did not deserve this.”

Authorities are still investigating the incident and are consulting with the district attorney’s office to decide on potential charges related to Mina’s death.

Mina’s family has set up a GoFundMe fundraiser to help cover funeral expenses.
