A child, aged 8, discovered a loaded and unsecured handgun at his residence in Akron, Ohio, on Monday afternoon. Unfortunately, he accidentally shot himself with it.
The boy, known as D’Angelo Darrell Alcorn, was quickly taken to Akron Children’s Hospital, where he later passed away, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.
Reports mention that the child’s mother was present during the incident and immediately contacted emergency services by dialing 911.
The gun was recovered.
Police said the shooting took place on the home’s second floor, and the boy was found with a gunshot wound to the torso, according to WJW.
The boy was a student at Crouse Community Learning Center, the Beacon Journal reported.
