Oregon deputies responding to a car crash found an injured male driver, and a deceased woman with a gunshot wound hidden inside the vehicle Monday.
Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office discovered a crash site at approximately 6:30 a.m. in Independence, Oregon, specifically in the 10000 block of Corvallis Road as reported by Oregon Live.
Police reported that Tyler Andrew Holman, 39 years old, lost control of his vehicle and overturned it on a remote road. Holman was transported to the hospital for medical care. During the investigation, law enforcement officers found the body of Holman’s ex-girlfriend, Ashley Jean Gandolfi, 35 years old. Authorities mentioned that the circumstances surrounding her death indicated that she was not a victim of the car crash.
Subsequent to an autopsy conducted later in the week, the medical examiner affirmed that Gandolfi’s demise was caused by a gunshot wound to her head, according to information from KEZI.
After Holman was released from the hospital on Thursday, he was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder, tampering with evidence, and second-degree abuse of a corpse.
Salem police stated that Holman and Gandolfi “were previously in a romantic relationship,” as reported by Oregon Live.
Their 11-year relationship was turbulent, resulting in Holman’s arrest on assault charges in March 2024, according to KEZI. In that incident, Gandolfi reported that Holman had dislocated her shoulder by knocking her down and throwing an ice chest at her. The charges were dismissed in August due to a lack of evidence.
Holman was booked into the Marion County Jail as law enforcement continues its investigation.
