Mom of 2 Suddenly Dies from Drinking Too Much Water – Her Husband Desperately Tries to Save Her

• An Indiana mother-of-two went on a vacation with her family, unaware that something unexpected would soon take her life.

A mother-of-two from Indiana, Ashley Summers, was vacationing with her family when the unthinkable happened. She spent her Fourth of July weekend with her husband, Cody, and daughters, Brooklyn and Brynlee.

The 35-year-old woman went to Lake Freeman, which is situated about 80 miles away from Indianapolis. The family trip began on July 1, 2023, but no one knew that a tragic incident awaited the woman on the last day of her vacation―July 4.

Everything was going well during the family holiday until the last day when Summers felt extremely thirsty. According to her uncle, Deon Miller, the weather was “really hot” that day, and the woman thought she must have been dehydrated because of the heat.

As a result, she drank water, unaware that she would soon die because of it. She drank water, but it didn’t quench her thirst, so she drank more, ultimately consuming about half a gallon of water within 30 minutes.

Besides feeling thirsty, Summers also felt lightheaded and experienced a headache. She thought drinking water would make her feel better, unaware she would suddenly collapse upon reaching home.

Summers was in the garage with her husband when she suddenly fainted and never woke up. At that point, Cody immediately tried to revive her through CPR, but things weren’t good when they reached the hospital.

The doctors at Indiana University Health Arnett Hospital checked Summers and ran tests on her to learn that her brain was swollen, which cut blood circulation to her brain. At that point, Summers’ family was informed about her condition. Her brother, Devon Miller, recalled:

“My sister, Holly, called me, and she was just an absolute wreck. She was like, ‘Ashley is in the hospital. She has brain swelling, they don’t know what’s causing it, they don’t know what they can do to get it to go down, and it’s not looking good.'”

Later that night, the mother of two breathed her last in the hospital room after being diagnosed with water poisoning. Devon revealed that everyone was shocked upon learning about the condition because none of them ever thought drinking too much water could kill someone.

Summers had drank an excessive amount of water in a few minutes, which led to brain swelling. Water poisoning also occurs when the kidneys cannot regulate the amount of water in the body.

According to Devon, Summers’ daughters haven’t been doing well after their mother’s untimely demise because they were very close to her. “She loved kids, and her kids were on her hip all the time,” he said about his late sister.

In a Facebook post, Summers’ friend, Carissa Kay DeWitt, announced that the mother-of-two’s organs would be donated by her family. DeWitt said she envied the recipients because they would get “a piece of our Ash.” She wrote:

“She will be gifting SO many people & giving them a second chance at life.”

None of Summers’ family members knew that a fun-filled vacation would turn into something horrifying after the mother-of-two unknowingly consumed too much water. Her sudden death had left all her family members in shock.
