Two Men Behind Nearly 30% of Alabama Crimes Arrested for Murders, Mass Shooting

Authorities in Birmingham, Alabama, have apprehended two individuals believed to be responsible for a significant portion of the state’s homicides, accounting for around 30% of such cases in the summer of 2024. This has raised concerns about the prevalence of violent crimes in the area.

The individuals in question, identified as Damien McDaniel, aged 22, from Bessemer, and Hatarius Woods, aged 27, from Fairfield, were taken into custody in Birmingham, Alabama, for their suspected roles in the state’s homicide incidents during the summer of 2024.

Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald disclosed that the pair have ties to a string of violent offenses, which includes the alleged murder of Charlie Moore, a 61-year-old individual who was fatally shot on August 13.

According to the police, McDaniel and Woods are also suspected of participating in a nightclub mass shooting on July 13 that resulted in four fatalities and injuries to ten others.

McDaniel was previously arrested in October in connection with another mass shooting that occurred on September 21, which left four dead and around 17 injured.

Officer Fitzgerald emphasized the significance of the arrests, noting that a few individuals contribute to a disproportionate amount of violent crime in Birmingham.

Police said McDaniel may be linked to as many as 11 murders, with additional unsolved cases potentially involving both men.

Currently, both men being held without bond.
