A Pennsylvania woman who vanished on Monday is believed to have fallen into a sinkhole.
Elizabeth Pollard, aged 64, was reported missing in Union Township, as per WTAE. Her 5-year-old granddaughter was discovered in a car just 15 to 20 feet away from where Pollard was last seen.
WPXI reported that Pollard vanished while supposedly searching for her lost cat. Public Relations Officer Steve Limani stated that Pollard inadvertently caused a sinkhole to form while roaming the area, which wasn’t there previously.
Limani said it is warm in the sinkhole and oxygen levels are good.
“Once you get below the surface, the hole gets significantly wider,” he explained.
As indicated by WPXI, authorities are utilizing listening devices and cameras to investigate the sinkhole. Although no sounds were picked up, the camera allegedly caught a glimpse of a shoe inside.
A fire official said there are mines in the area, though it is unclear whether this sinkhole is related to any mines. A construction company is helping with the ongoing search.
