After nearly four days of being reported missing by her family, the body of a 29-year-old woman from New York was found by authorities in freezing weather conditions.
Amherst Police Department previously mentioned that Leah Bellitto was last seen by her family members on Saturday at around 9 p.m. in East Amherst, as reported by CrimeOnline.
Searchers found a barefoot footprint in the snow and one of Bellitto’s gloves discarded under a highway overpass, according to WGRZ.
Amherst police said that Bellini was found deceased in the water near Dodge Road,” according to a release shared on X.
The Amherst Police Department is currently investigating the discovery of Leah Bellitto, who was reported missing on February 8, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m. The police shared in a post that, “A citizen walking in the area found her at around 9:55 a.m.”
“At the time of her discovery, members of the Amherst Police Emergency Response Team, along with volunteer search groups, were in the vicinity conducting search efforts.”
“The cause and manner of death are currently under investigation. At this time, there are no signs of foul play and there is no apparent danger to the public.”
