A 10-year-old boy from Indiana tragically passed away after his foster mother, who weighed 340 pounds, reportedly sat on him for a few minutes as a form of punishment for misbehavior.
Jennifer Lee Wilson, aged 48, was given a sentence in January that included six years in prison, with one year to be served on probation, as reported by WMAQ. She faced charges of reckless homicide in relation to the death of Dakota Levi Stevens.
Authorities were alerted on April 25 to a residence in Valparaiso, Indiana, following a call concerning the boy’s respiratory difficulties and discovered that he was unresponsive with no pulse, according to CBS News. Upon examination, an officer observed injuries on the child’s lower neck and chest. Despite efforts to revive him by the officers present, he was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

An autopsy revealed the cause of death as mechanical asphyxia and the manner of death as homicide. (iStock)
The neighbor told officers that Dakota ran to her house before the medical emergency and asked her to adopt him because his parents hit him in the face. The neighbor said she did not observe any signs of injury to the boy.
Wilson then came to take her son back, the neighbor said.
Dakota was 4’10” and 91 pounds, while Wilson was listed at 4’11” and 340 pounds.
