1923 fans horrified by massive bloodbath that kills off SEVEN major characters ahead of next week's finale

As the Season 2 finale approaches, viewers of Yellowstone’s prequel 1923 on Paramount Plus were shocked by the recent bloodbath episode.

There were five major characters who were killed off in this week’s penultimate Season 2 episode, entitled The Mountain Teeth of Monsters.

In addition to the unexpected deaths, fans hoping for Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) and Alexandra Dutton (Julia Schlaepfer) to reunite were disappointed as their paths diverged once more.

Many fans have even branded the show ‘unwatchable’ after an abhorrent sexual assault that Alex suffered from the literal hands of a vile stranger.

The battle for control of the Yellowstone Dutton ranch is expected to reach its peak in the upcoming Season 2 finale, leaving some fans uncertain about the fate of the characters involved.

Fans did not hesitate to express their frustration after this deadly episode, that even claimed the life of a beloved Dutton family member.

What's more, aside from the deaths, fans who have been yearning for Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) and Alexandra Dutton (Julia Schlaepfer) to finally be back together were angered by their separate journeys being stunted once again

One of the big storylines heading into the season was Alex and Spencer’s arduous journeys to meet with each other in Montana, journeys which have been perilous for both.

After being questioned in Texas for vagrancy, and sending word that he’s coming home, Spencer was finally on a train home.

Alex’s train was canceled due to a snow drift, though she was saved by some affluent and compassionate fellow Brits, Paul (Augustus Pew) and Hillary (Janet Montgomery).

After hearing her incredible tale, they offer to drive her to Montana, though they encounter the same storm that halted her train, as Alex wakes up to find Hillary frozen to death in her seat, and Paul lifeless outside, a short distance from the car.

Their deaths were not necessary either, had they heeded the warning from a lady at the gas station, who said there were no more gas stations from there to Montana.

The episode ends with Alex alone in the car, miles from anywhere with no one to help her anywhere in sight, ahead of next week’s finale.

While Spencer remains alive and on the train home, his nephew Jack Dutton (Darren Mann), John Dutton Sr.’s (James Badge Dale) only son, did not.

He ignored his uncle Jacob’s (Harrison Ford) orders to stay home and protect his pregnant wife Elizabeth (Michelle Randolph) and Jacob’s wife/Jack’s aunt Cara (Helen Mirren), but he decided to run off and help his uncle anyway.

Along the way, he runs into Clyde (Brian Konowal) and Alec (Colt Brown), fellow Livestock Agents, although Jack (and none of the Dutton’s, frankly) know they are both actually spies for the nefarious Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton).

Clyde and Alec were sent into town to wait at the train station for Spencer’s arrival, giving them standing orders to kill Spencer and the rest of the Dutton’s and put them in the unincorporated county Yellowstone fans know as ‘the train station.’

While Clyde and Jack were casually chatting about Spencer, Clyde quickly kills Jack and hides his body in the woods before heading to the real train station.

One of the other major storylines this season involves Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves), her escape from the brutal Christian school and the manhunt for her after she killed several nuns.

After her escape from the school, she’s taken in by Runs His Horse (Michael Spears) and Pete Plenty Clouds (Jeremy Gauna) and they go on the run together from Marshal Kent (Jamie McShane) and Father Renaud (Sebastian Roche).

Only one of these five characters is left standing at the end of The Mountain Teeth of Monsters, Teonna herself, who is likely an ancestor of Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) from the original Yellowstone series.

Last week’s episode ended in yet another cliffhanger with Marshal Kent and Pete both firing their weapons at the same time… but we learn that it was Kent who killed Pete.

After Father Renaud catches up with Kent, he’s sickened by all the death he’s caused in their hunt for the murderous Teonna, and decides to kill Kent himself.

Along the way, he runs into Clyde (Brian Konowal) and Alec (Colt Brown), fellow Livestock Agents, although Jack (and none of the Dutton's, frankly) know they are both actually spies for the nefarious Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton)

Fans did not hold back in sharing their opinions about this deadly episode online, including Andrew (@FriscoGiantsfan), who wondered, ‘Bro does anyone survive this season of #1923tv.’

Another X user – @QueenOfTWD – added, ‘Jack is a damn idiot but they could have just had him killed during battle. The writing has miss after miss #1923tv.’

That user also pointed out, ‘If Alex got on the train she would have reunited with Spencer. Now she’ll be miraculously saved again in a tundra like she has been all season.’

The gas station attendant told Alex, Paul and Hillary that their car will never make it to Montana and they should take the train in Sheridan instead, as we learned later in the episode that Spencer would have likely been on that very train if she had gotten on it.

BeautifulSouL (@MisoFThSto) added, ‘Jack’s hard head cost him his life. You’ve got to think smarter, especially when you have a family to protect. Damn, I mad that happened to him.’

Katey (@kateystagram) bemoaned, ‘my laaaaawd jack dutton is stupid,’ while Wendy (@27cc40a7ee3a402) called out creator Taylor Sheridan, stating, ‘You went & had Spencer’s nephew killed off. #1923TV first Pete, now this. My britches are on for revenge of the boy! “Your killing off the wrong side of the law.”‘
