A week after Israel unleashed a surprise attack on Iran with the goal of eliminating its nuclear program, attention has shifted towards the secretive supreme leader of the country, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, made a bold statement on Thursday following an Iranian missile strike on an Israeli hospital. Katz emphasized that “Khamenei will be held responsible for his actions,” stating during a visit to one of the strike sites that “someone of his nature should not be in power.” He later referred to Khamenei as “the contemporary equivalent of Hitler,” as reported by the Times of Israel.
Throughout his lengthy tenure, Khamenei has constructed a shielded inner circle around himself within and outside Iran. However, with Israel eliminating some of his key advisors and prominent security officials, while also severely undermining his extremist Islamic allies across the region, the supreme leader appears to be growing increasingly isolated.
