‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ EP Megan Ganz Says The Gang Is Going Crazy After the Eagles Super Bowl Win: “At Least One Of Them Is Probably In Jail For Punching A Police Horse”

Following the Philadelphia Eagles’ impressive victory against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, the eclectic bunch from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia are the loudest supporters chanting “Fly, Eagles Fly”. According to the executive producer of the show, Megan Ganz, the gang from Philly is likely engaging in some wild antics.

In an interview with Decider, Ganz, along with her husband and fellow writer of Mythic Quest, Humphrey Ker, mentioned that she reached out to Sunny creator Rob McElhenney to offer congratulations even before the game ended, as the Eagles were close to victory. McElhenney, a devoted Philadelphia local and lifelong Eagles enthusiast, watched the game in New Orleans with his wife and co-star Kaitlin Olson, sharing a snapshot on Instagram with stars from Abbott Elementary, Quinta Brunson and Tyler James Williams.

When asked about how Ganz believes the fictional personas of Mac (played by McElhenney), Dee (Olson), Charlie (Charlie Day), Frank (Danny DeVito), and Dennis (Glenn Howerton) are commemorating the win, she admitted she wasn’t entirely certain but emphasized that it’s highly likely to involve some form of raucous misbehavior.

“Their mouths are stained green from various riot punch concoctions that they’ve been drinking. At least one of them is probably in jail for punching a police horse,” Ganz joked. “There’s probably some battery bruises on many of them. One might still be at the top of a street lamp. You know, they probably climbed up that.”

That last one is a direct reference to the videos on social media showing the streets of Philadelphia on Sunday evening after the Eagles’ victory. The City of Brotherly Love does not half-ass their celebrations and the fans could not control their excitement as their team clinched the title for only the second time in franchise history.

Fans will remember that back in Season 13, the Paddy’s Pub gang got into shenanigans in “The Gang Wins the Big Game” where they watched Super Bowl LII from Lincoln Financial Field. That episode ended with appearances from then-Eagles players Beau Allen and Jason Kelce, as well as a montage of real-life fans watching the nail-biter game end in an Eagles win. As the credits rolled, fans also got to watch Olson and McElhenney’s jubilation as they were in the stadium to witness the Eagles’ first Super Bowl victory.

So how are things different this time around? Ganz and Ker have some other ideas on how the gang is inevitably being their most chaotic selves with the second Super Bowl win.

“I think they’re at the wrong New Orleans,” Ker said of the gang, who just recently appeared in a crossover with the Abbott Elementary crew. “They went to like New Orleans, South Dakota.”

“They’re scattered,” responded Ganz, adding that Frank — the wildly entertaining character played by DeVito — “probably managed to get to the locker room” with the team.

“And Frank is the person who poisoned the Kansas City Chiefs,” Ker said.

Did they just write an episode for Season 17? Fans will have to wait and see how and if the win plays out in the upcoming season of the FX comedy, which does not yet have a release date but is expected to release in the summer. This season does include the It’s Always Sunny version of the Abbott Elementary crossover but maybe the win will cement a second collaboration between the shows.

The first 16 seasons of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia are streaming on Hulu right now.
