Alaska Man Monday - Refreezing, Denali, and the Iditarod

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a foolish criminal to talk about, but here’s one who’s about to learn a valuable lesson the hard way – don’t go hunting from an airplane. This guy got caught, and now he’s going to face the consequences.

On August 31, 2024, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Fairbanks were informed about a hunter using an airplane to scout for sheep near Lime Peak in the White Mountains. It was discovered that Taylor Hulslander from North Pole had flown his 1975 Piper PA-18-150 to spot sheep on the evening of August 26, 2024, close to Lime Peak in the White Mountains. Hulslander flew over a full-curl Dall sheep multiple times, which he later hunted down on the morning of August 27, 2024. Hunting regulations strictly forbid the use of aircraft to locate sheep for hunting between August 10 and September 20. Hulslander is scheduled for a hearing on March 25, 2025, in Fairbanks.

Actions like this infuriate law-abiding hunters like myself. This is a clear violation of the fair chase rule. This irresponsible individual should have his hunting license permanently revoked.

Alaska Man score: Nil. I award you no moose nuggets, and may God have mercy on your soul.
