Praise Kier! Severance has officially been renewed for a third season.
This exciting news comes just a day after the Season 2 finale of the Apple TV+ workplace thriller.
Originally, a small following of science fiction enthusiasts kept the mysterious series alive but now it has risen to the top as Apple TV+’s most popular show, thanks to its second season.
Created by Dan Erickson, the series is helmed by director and executive producer Ben Stiller and features Adam Scott as the protagonist, Mark Scout. Mark opts for a procedure that splits his work and personal identities. While one part grieves for his late wife, the other leads a secretive life within Lumon, a biotech company with dark secrets.
In the initial season, Mark and his coworkers – Helly (Britt Lower), Dylan (Zach Cherry), and Irving (John Turturro) – rebel against Lumon by discovering ways to bring forth their hidden personas. The second season delves deeper as they confront unsettling realities about their true selves outside their workplace.
The cast of Severance also includes Tramell Tillman, Patricia Arquette, Christopher Walken, Dichen Lachman, Jen Tullock, and Michael Chernus.
During the three-year hiatus between Seasons 1 and 2, the sci-fi mystery series cultivated a dedicated following. Ahead of the Season 2 premiere, creator Erickson shared with Variety that “a lot is mapped out” for Season 3, adding that “there is an endpoint for the series as a whole, and we know more or less how many seasons we are going to do.”
Alongside Stiller and Erickson, the executive producers include Nicholas Weinstock, Jackie Cohn, Mark Friedman, Andrew Colville, Chris Black, John Cameron, Beau Willimon, Caroline Baron, Jordan Tappis, and Scott. The production companies behind the series are Fifth Season, Red Hour Productions, Westward, and Animals & People.
Ben Stiller expressed his excitement about the show’s success: “Making ‘Severance’ has been one of the most creatively exciting experiences I’ve ever been a part of. While I have no memory of this, I’m told making Season 3 will be equally enjoyable, though any recollection of these future events will be forever and irrevocably wiped from my memory as well.”
Adam Scott also shared his enthusiasm: “I couldn’t be more excited to get back to work with Ben, Dan, the incredible cast and crew, Apple, and the whole ‘Severance’ team. Oh hey also — not a huge deal — but if you see my innie, please don’t mention any of this to him. Thanks.”
Dan Erickson, the creator, reflected on the thrill of continuing the story: “The idea of getting to make more ‘Severance’ with the greatest cast and crew on Earth is more thrilling to me than all the world’s finger traps combined. I can’t wait to continue spreading woe, frolic, dread, and malice with these truly incredible people.”
Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, praised the series: “What Ben, Dan, Adam, and the talented cast and crew behind ‘Severance’ have brought to the screen is undeniable magic. We’re so proud to be the home for this brilliant series and look forward to audiences experiencing what’s in store for Season 3.”
