Harmeet Dhillon, currently holding the role of Assistant Attorney General for the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division in the Trump Administration, recently had to clarify the importance of looking beyond initial appearances to Eric Daugherty, assistant news director of Florida’s Voice News. This clarification was regarding the identification of someone’s religion based on their attire. The incident occurred when Dhillon corrected Daugherty’s mistaken assumption that Giani Singh, a Sikh Granthi who conducted the opening prayer at the House of Representatives on June 6, 2025, was a Muslim.
In the initial post by Daugherty, he incorrectly referred to Singh as a Muslim, which was later amended to accurately reflect that Singh is a Sikh. This mistake may have been influenced by Rep. Mary Miller’s initial post expressing disapproval of the “Muslim” individual leading the prayer. After being corrected, Daugherty revised his post to state, “What appears to be a SIKH led the prayer in the House this morning,” along with sharing a video of the prayer questioning the situation.
That led to Dhillon’s post.

Throughout her career, Dhillon has been a strong advocate for conservative beliefs and causes. Her public criticism of Ronna McDaniel’s ineffective and financially irresponsible leadership as RNC chair, as revealed here on RedState, played a significant role in prompting a change in RNC leadership. This change ultimately supported Donald Trump’s successful presidential campaign in 2024. Dhillon has consistently supported conservative individuals in legal matters, including offering assistance to journalist Andy Ngo. Her appointment by Trump underscores her importance to the conservative movement.
