Fans call her “Mother,” but Atsuko is “Father.”
That’s the premise of comedian Atsuko Okatsuka’s new Hulu stand-up comedy special, “Atsuko Okatsuka: Father.”
Atsuko Okatsuka, known for her distinctive bowl cut and comedic style, shines in her show “Father,” where she portrays someone excelling in their career but lacking in basic knowledge. From taking a 7-year break from doing laundry to realizing the importance of getting a marriage license before a wedding, Okatsuka shares amusingly relatable experiences in her comedy special.
“My fans are always out there being like, ‘Atsuko is mother. She is mother. She is mothering!’ Oh, no, no, no. I am father,” she says in the trailer.
As a comedian, actress, and the initiator of the #DropChallenge in 2022, Okatsuka is gaining attention for her ability to mix joy with vulnerability and deliver unforgettable storytelling.
The show “Father” is not only written and performed by Atsuko Okatsuka but also executive produced by her. Ally Engelberg and Ryan Harper Gray, who directed the special, also serve as additional executive producers.
“Atsuko Okatsuka: Father” is the eighth Original special in Hulu’s stand-up comedy slate, Hularious, and joins the talents of Jim Gaffigan, Bill Burr, Roy Wood Jr., Ilana Glazer and more.
It premieres Friday, June 13 on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.
The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Hulu and this ABC station.
